When it comes to growing your business, LinkedIn® is no longer just a place to drop your digital resume. Today, it’s a relationship-driven platform where visibility, trust, and authority open doors. Yet many business owners, consultants, and entrepreneurs only scratch the surface of what LinkedIn can do.
If you’ve been wondering why LinkedIn is important for business in 2025, or which features actually move the needle, here are five you may be missing that can help you show up, stand out, and start more conversations.
1. Save Posts for Easy Reference and Future Ideas
Why save a post? If you see some helpful information in a post that you may want to reference in the future, simply add it to your saved folder.
Here’s how to save a post:
Click the three dots in the top-right corner of any post
Select “Save”
To view it later, go to your Home page, and on the left-hand sidebar, scroll down to Saved Items
Tip: Use this to build your own content swipe file, gather industry insights, or reshare smart ideas.
And hey—if you see one of my posts you found helpful? Hit that Save button.

2. Train Your LinkedIn Feed to Show You What Matters
You have more control over your feed than you think. LinkedIn’s algorithm shows you posts based on relevance, not just recency—but you can influence what appears more often.
Try this:
- Toggle between Top and Recent posts in your feed
- Click the three dots on any post you don’t want to see again, and select “I’m not interested in this post”
According to Hootsuite, LinkedIn uses signals like engagement, personal connections, and post frequency to decide what shows up first. That means: the more you engage with certain people or topics, the more LinkedIn shows you related content.
If you want to see more from someone, comment, like, or follow them. It tells LinkedIn they matter to you.

You always have the option for posts you are not interested in to select the 3 dots in the right corner, choose from the drop down menu: not interested.
It is also worth noting, you will continue to see posts from users you are connected to or follow, and engage with their posts. So if you want to see more of someone’s post simply follow them and comment on their posts.
3. Understand How Your Network Affects Your Visibility
A current strategy that is going around by many LinkedIn consultants is suggesting the more you react (Like, comment or share) with other people’s posts, that will improve the overall reach of your own posts and your visibility.
What I have noticed is how many people abuse this concept and will ‘Like’ dozens or more posts in a day which fills your home feed with posts they like!
I don’t love this strategy because it’s self-serving and let’s face it – most active LinkedIn users don’t appreciate their home feed being filled with post after post that says “John Doe Likes this post”.
What can you do?
Click the 3 dots in the right corner, in the drop down menu click “Not interested” which will remove that post from your feed. This is signaling LinkedIn to no longer show you that person’s posts. I warn you not to click ‘report post’ – the only time you should do that is if the content of the post is offensive.
There are advantages to view your LinkedIn network’s posts
If you have someone in your network that you respect and therefore appreciate the posts they like or find insightful or have commented on, then by all means, do not remove them from your feed.

4. Use Messaging to Strengthen Business Relationships
LinkedIn messaging has quietly become a powerful relationship tool. Beyond the basics, it allows you to nurture your network and keep warm leads engaged.
A few tips:
- You can message any 1st-degree connection for free
- Filter your messages by unread, archived, or flagged to stay organized
- Join relevant LinkedIn Groups to message group members, even if you’re not directly connected
You can also send group messages (sparingly, and always personalized), and move from online to offline with a well-timed Direct Message.
As HubSpot puts it:
| “LinkedIn isn’t about collecting connections. It’s about building relationships.” — HubSpot, LinkedIn Marketing Strategy Insights.
5. Add a Human Touch with Video or Voice Messages
Want to leave a memorable impression? Try sending a quick video or voice message—directly through LinkedIn’s mobile app.
As you have expanded your network of key relationships, you may want to communicate with them from time to time via LinkedIn.
For example, I may see a post from a valued connection I may not have been in communication with for awhile and I want to acknowledge a person in a more personal way in the moment (likely will schedule a phone call at a later date) here are two ways to communicate more personally.
Use these features:
Send a short video or send a 30 second voice message (on mobile only).
I like to send new connections a short video thanking them for connecting and letting them know a little bit about me.
In the images below, on the left you see I added a video clip. In the write a message box, click the paper clip and the options pop-up as you see in the image below. In this example, I selected media from library where I selected a video I have saved on my mobile device.
To record a brief voice message, in the same write a message box, click on the microphone on the right side of the box you will see ‘hold to record’ indicates you can start speaking shown in the image below.

Final Thoughts: Why LinkedIn Is Still One of the Best Tools for Business Growth
If you’re not using these simple features, you may be leaving visibility, leads, and relationships on the table.
The benefits of LinkedIn for business go beyond just posting content. When used intentionally, LinkedIn becomes a tool for consistent visibility, deeper engagement, and long-term credibility in your space.
And the best part? You don’t need to spend hours a day – just a few smart strategies, used consistently.
